Hey there! My name is Sophie. I'm a recent Stanford CS grad interested in bettering the way people interact with technology and figuring out how we can bring more joy to everyday life.
This is a collection of past work experience and projects, as well as a little about me. If you're interested in what you see, let's get in touch!
about me
Nice to meet you
My name is Sophie. I'm a recent Stanford grad with a B.S. in Computer Science (concentration in Human-Computer Interaction) and a minor in East Asian Studies. When away from my desk, I enjoy visiting the latest art exhibit, discovering new places, and talking to others about their lives.
Researched UX issues for VR-ready gaming laptops. Found and summarized UX issues for latest laptops and notebooks. Co-organized and lead an internal user testing session for an upcoming gaming laptop. Worked primarily in Chinese.
Developed REST API calls for internal use in a major product. Ran performance tests and summarized results on using Amazon Web Services to migrate to the cloud and rerouting using ScaleArc.
I communicated information clearly about current exhibits and upcoming events at the Anderson Collection, a wonderful collection of contemporary American art. In this position, I greeted and helped visitors at the front desk. I also substituted at the neighboring Cantor Arts Center at times.
I co-managed a cohesive social identity for Stanford Taiko across Facebook, website, and mailing list, which reaches thousands of people. Stanford Taiko is a entirely student-run Japanese drumming group, with which I had the privilege of practicing and performing during all four years at Stanford.
Studies show that students who are more socially and emotionally well-adjusted do better in school. However, many schools are not yet equipped to engage students in social and emotional learning (SEL). In response, we created Kaleidoscope. Kaleidoscope is a standalone educational toolkit comprised of a VR experience with an accompanying curriculum for elementary and middle school students.
I worked with graduate student Yun Lucy Zhang under Prof. Jeanne Tsai researching culture and affect. Our research question focused on whether bicultural individuals adjust their ideal positive affect in response to cultural cues.
As a research assistant, I recruited and ran participants; organized, qualitatively coded and analyzed the resulting data; and trained other research assistants. At the end of the 2013 summer research session, I presented a poster on the effect of cultural cues on bicultural individuals' ideal affect using the data collected so far.
When I can, I always try to squeeze in some more time to make and consume art! Some of my sketches and works from college and high school.
talk to me
Feel free to reach out to me to talk about my past work and projects, examples of user experience that moved you, art that touched you, anything at all. Hope to hear from you soon :-)
